Why Smoke Works for Bees

In ancient times, bee colonies, honey, pollen, etc. were the hunting objects of ancient humans. Most of the ancient humans hunted bees by smoky fire. During the hunting process, those bees that are unresponsive to fireworks are slowly eliminated by being burned to death. And those bees that are sensitive to fireworks, especially those that run away when they encounter fireworks, were preserved. Over time, bees develop a stress response to being afraid of smoking.

So what happens to bees with smoke? Honeybees develop a stress response when disturbed by smoke. At this time, all the members will suck honey and prepare to flee. Too much smoke will kill the bees. Taking advantage of this feature, beekeepers invented the smoker. The bee smoker is composed of a blower device and a combustion furnace. Most of them are used in situations such as harvesting wild bees, worker bees encircling queens, and bee colonies fighting. When using, ignite fuming fuel (linen, sawdust, etc.) in the burner, and then press it to spray smoke.
